Our kitchen is now closed until summer 2022. That includes private dining.

When the world returns to normal, our weekend kitchen is open from the beginning of July until the end of September for weekend lunches only.

Our restaurant can also be booked for private dining and special events throughout the year – for an evening or a lunch, and on any day of the week. For full details see below. We may also offer pop-up evening suppers here and there. To find out more and to receive notifications of further opening times please sign up to our Kitchen Mailing List.

Our dining rooms and outdoor courtyard are open for weekend lunches during the summer months only and we provide a set menu around seafood and vegetables, with a minimum order of two courses. Please see our Menu page for an example of our cooking and prices.

Lunch commences from noon on Saturdays and Sundays, and last orders are at 4pm.

We are sorry that you can’t make on-line bookings. To book your table please either call +44 (0)1424 447171 or email. We cannot respond on a Monday, because we are closed.

Unfortunately we have had people cancel their table at the last minute – or simply just not turn up. We are a very small set-up and we are sure you will understand such actions lead to drastic financial losses for us, and so we have had to ask that a £10 deposit per person is paid on booking for parties of 4 people or more. We can take your payment by phone. Please see our FAQs & Terms below.

Very occasionally we open the restaurant for a one-off evening with a set menu. We can let you know by email when the dining rooms are open for these occasions. Those that have joined our  mailing list will be notified, and bookings are taken on a first-come first-served basis. We also post this news on our website Notices board, on our Facebook page and in our shop window.

On some of these evenings, Alastair will break away from our usual British-focused food and offer a more eclectic menu, with dishes gleaned from his many travels from around the world. We will let you know which evenings this applies to.

We operate two sittings, one at 6pm and the next at 9pm. Diners taking the 6pm sitting are kindly requested to vacate their tables prior to 9pm.

Private Dining

We offer exclusive bookings, where a group can book the restaurant entirely for themselves for a lunch or evening supper, and Alastair Hendy will be in the kitchen and cooking your food. These events can be booked for most days of the week, can accommodate up to 16 people, and we will discuss the menu with you in advance.

We have to bring in all our staff specially for these occasions and the restaurant is exclusively yours – which means these events are priced from £1000.

Alastair can provide an appetiser prior to dinner and guests are welcome to look around A G Hendy & Co Home Store, set over three floors. If anyone wishes to make any purchases from the shop then they would be able to do so.

Special Event

The kitchen, dining rooms and courtyard can be hired for special events, corporate bookings or location hire. Please contact us for further details.

The Tudor House

If you are making a Private Dining or a Special Event reservation, you may also like to include a visit to Alastair Hendy’s unique Tudor house before your dinner – which is a three-minute walk away from the restaurant. This 16th Century merchant’s dwelling is one of the most complete Tudor houses in the Old Town, and has been featured in many publications such as The World Of Interiors, The Daily Mail, The Times and The Daily Telegraph, and also on television – BBC News and The One Show. This is an opportunity to experience first hand this magical time capsule, lit by candlelight and with log fires burning.

Private tours are hosted by Alastair Hendy and cost £10 per head.

The house can also be booked for an exclusive lunch, supper or event. Please contact us for further information.
